Class 11 vs Class 12: how to split your revision
By the MyAbhyasa team ·
The two-year syllabus is not weighted equally by every exam. Knowing how each paper samples Class 11 versus Class 12 is the difference between revising by the syllabus and revising by the marks.
How does MHT-CET weight the two years?
MHT-CET draws roughly 80% of its questions from Class 12 and about 20% from Class 11, on the Maharashtra State Board syllabus — in both the PCM and PCB tracks.
For a CET-focused student, that makes Class 12 mastery the core of the preparation and Class 11 a targeted supplement, weighted toward its highest-yield chapters, not an equal partner.
How do NEET and JEE Main treat Class 11?
Both national exams draw on the full two-year syllabus — NEET tracking NCERT Class 11 + 12 nearly line by line, JEE Main using the CBSE syllabus across both years. Class 11 foundations (mechanics in Physics, physical chemistry basics, and for JEE the algebra toolkit) also underpin many Class 12 questions.
A national-exam aspirant cannot deprioritise Class 11 the way a CET-only aspirant can: the first-year material is directly examined and structurally load-bearing.
What should a dual-track Maharashtra student do?
Prepare the full two-year syllabus for the national exam you are targeting — that work automatically covers CET's Class 12 core. Then let CET-specific revision in the final stretch lean into Class 12, matching where CET concentrates its marks.
The trap to avoid is the reverse order: preparing CET-style (Class-12-heavy) and hoping it stretches to NEET or JEE — the missing Class 11 depth surfaces immediately in the national papers.
